Bp1-I’m a BLOGGER!

Hello! My name is Tammy. I’m from Chardon, but originally from Maryland.

  • I’m a K-8 certified teacher becoming a reading specialist at JCU. I currently attend graduate classes full-time and work as a 7th grade intervention specialist inclusion teacher part-time. I’m a long-term sub in 2 math classes-not my specialty, but it’ll do for now. I’m a Girl Scout leader of five 8th graders trying very hard to motivate my girls to plan a summer trip, accomplish their Silver Award, and sell Girl Scout cookies all before May. I do face painting and make jewelry for my creative outlet.
  • I learn best by taking notes, doing, using color for changes, very visual learner. I need set parameters for expectations for assignments to have clarity; time to explore & chat with others about the experiences and new knowledge.
  • Reading…hmmm…dyslexia has been the most recent topic of research that just intrigues me. Every article leads to another & another because the research is so new. This article is an explanation history of dyslexia and how the learning disability identification has changed. It has a vague definition still with more research ongoing for neurological identification.

Dyslexia
A new model of this reading disorder emphasizes defects in the language-processing rather than the visual system. It explains why some very smart people have trouble learning to read.

  • Dr. Shutkin, what are your thoughts on platforms such as Google classroom vs. an independent website for school based technology organization, to keep some consistency within a school or district?
